Our Commitment to the Green Agenda
We remain committed to delivering against the green agenda and vision we have set out for ARU Peterborough alongside our key partners.
Our green travel plan is just one element on this, which will see the University requiring only circa 36 spaces for up to 3000 students. We will also be creating new bus stops nearby to ensure the campus is easily assessable via public transport as well as the campus being in walking distance of Peterborough Station.
Having removed the Wirrina Car Park, we are still in discussion about just how many extra spaces are needed on top of those already available in the regional pool, it is highly likely there will be a total net reduction in spaces across the project.
The new car park off Bishops Road is being built to facilitate the creation of new jobs in Peterborough which are being directly created by the development of ARU Peterborough and the joint Research and Development Centre between the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Photocentric.
The Net Zero Hub we are building for research and development in Peterborough will enhance Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s position as a global leader in knowledge and innovation. Photocentric have a very strong environmental agenda, the business is currently researching into sustainable plastics in conjunction with the University of Birmingham and are working on a number of sustainable applications including investment casting for electric aircraft motors and ceramic cores for more efficient turbines.
Photocentric are in the process of working towards ISO 14001 accreditation as a company and have an ongoing commitment to the development of the new generation of battery technologies, while undertaking significant development work on the use of sustainable and biodegradable resins.
